The positions we have chosen to take on these statewide, countywide, and citywide measures are through the lens of our mission and work and are offered in the spirit of advancing a more just economy for all. Note that because of our 501(c)(3) status, we are unable to endorse political candidates.

Prop 1: CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM

The struggle for reproductive justice is inextricably linked to struggles for economic and racial justice. We support enshrining an individual’s right to reproductive freedom in the California Constitution.
Prop 26: ALLOWS IN-PERSON ROULETTE, DICE GAMES, SPORTS WAGERING ON TRIBAL LANDS.

Gambling addiction causes financial and mental devastation, especially in low-income communities and communities of color. We hold a neutral position in recognition of the need for new and significant revenue sources for Indigenous communities.
Prop 27: ALLOWS ONLINE AND MOBILE SPORTS WAGERING OUTSIDE TRIBAL LANDS.

Gambling addiction causes financial and mental devastation, especially in low-income communities and communities of color. We need more money for affordable housing, but not at the expense of public health, and especially not in ways that line the pockets of corporations.
Prop 28: PROVIDES ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR ARTS AND MUSIC EDUCATION IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

The arts should be an essential part of every child’s education, regardless of economic status. We support earmarking money in the state’s general fund to ensure that under-resourced schools, which are largely in low-income Black and Latino communities, have arts programs.
Prop 29: REQUIRES ON-SITE LICENSED MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL AT KIDNEY DIALYSIS CLINICS AND ESTABLISHES OTHER STATE REQUIREMENTS

Dialysis centers are private profit generators for huge corporations that make large amounts of money, often at public expense. Legislating medical oversight would help ensure that patients’ interests are prioritized over profits.
Prop 30: PROVIDES FUNDING FOR PROGRAMS TO REDUCE AIR POLLUTION AND PREVENT WILDFIRES BY INCREASING TAX ON PERSONAL INCOME OVER $2 MILLION.

This income-tax increase on wealthy households would fund electric vehicle incentives, among other pollution-combating measures. Yes, it’s supported by Lyft, but we believe that a wealth tax is a fine remedy for the sort of climate-changing activities that wealth often exacerbates.
Prop 31: REFERENDUM ON 2020 LAW THAT WOULD PROHIBIT THE RETAIL SALE OF CERTAIN FLAVORED TOBACCO PRODUCTS

Tobacco causes cancer, and it’s in the public health interest to prevent cancer by curbing tobacco sales—especially the sale of products that appeal to children.
Prop LH: AUTHORIZES PUBLIC ENTITIES TO CREATE AFFORDABLE HOUSING

This necessary sidestep to the racist and restrictive Article 34 of the California Constitution would allow the city to create more affordable and public housing. The measure would authorize public entities to add an additional 5,000 units of low-income rental housing in each Council District.
Initiative Ordinance ULA: MANSION TAX TO FUND HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING

This tax on mega-mansions and large commercial properties will generate the funding we need to reduce homelessness and protect low-income seniors. The measure is expected to affect only 4% of property sales while raising an estimated $900 million per year.
Measure A: REMOVAL OF SHERIFF FOR CAUSE AMENDMENT

We need a check on the LA County Sheriff’s Department. This measure would allow the County Board of Supervisors to remove the sheriff from office for cause, including for abuses of power and the misuse of public funds.
Measure C: MARIJUANA TAX FOR UNINCORPORATED AREAS

We support taxing marijana dispensaries in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County to help fund county services and workforce development programs.
Prop LA: LOS ANGELES COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT, FACILITIES AND JOB TRAINING BOND MEASURE

This will generate needed funding for affordable housing for low-income students. It also supports facilities and programs that serve our low-income communities, especially students of color.
Prop 1: DERECHO CONSTITUCIONAL A LA LIBERTAD REPRODUCTIVA

La lucha por la justicia reproductiva está indisolublemente unida a las luchas por la justicia económica y racial. Apoyamos la consagración del derecho individual a la libertad reproductiva en la Constitución de California.
Prop 26: PERMITE LA RULETA EN PERSONA, JUEGOS DE DADOS, APUESTAS DEPORTIVAS EN TIERRAS TRIBALES.

Este paso necesario para eludir el racista y restrictivo Artículo 34 de la Constitución de California permitiría a la ciudad crear más viviendas públicas y asequibles. Ordenanza de iniciativa ULA: IMPUESTO DE MANSIÓN PARA FINANCIAR LA PREVENCIÓN DE LA FALTA DE HOGAR Y LA VIVIENDA ASEQUIBLE

Este impuesto sobre megamansiones y grandes propiedades comerciales generará los fondos que necesitamos para reducir la falta de vivienda y proteger a las personas mayores de bajos ingresos. Se espera que la medida afecte solo el 4% de las ventas de propiedades y recaude aproximadamente $900 millones por año.
Medida A: REMOCIÓN DEL ALGUACIL POR CAUSA DE ENMIENDA

Necesitamos un cheque en el Departamento del Sheriff del Condado de Los Ángeles. Esta medida permitiría a la Junta de Supervisores del Condado destituir al alguacil de su cargo por causa justificada, incluso por abuso de poder y malversación de fondos públicos.
Medida C: IMPUESTO A LA MARIHUANA PARA ÁREAS NO INCORPORADAS
